WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE?
Chiropractic care is a healthcare discipline that focuses on assessing, diagnosing, and treating issues related to the joints, muscles, and nervous system—especially those involving the spine. It uses hands-on adjustments, exercise guidance, and other evidence-based therapies to restore movement, reduce pain, and improve overall function. Simply put, chiropractic care helps keep your body moving well and feeling its best.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN CHIROPRACTIC CARE TREAT?
Chiropractic care primarily focuses on issues related to the spine, joints, muscles, and the nervous system. Common conditions include back and neck pain, headaches, sciatica, and sports injuries.
However, chiropractic care can also provide relief for other conditions such as:

-
Joint stiffness and arthritis
-
Muscle strains and tension
-
Postural problems
-
Digestive issues like hiatal hernias
-
Nerve-related symptoms such as numbness or tingling in the upper or lower extremities
-
Repetitive strain injuries
-
Certain types of dizziness or balance problems.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM CHIROPRACTIC CARE?
Everyone! Millions of people from newborns to senior citizens use chiropractic care as a way to get healthy and stay healthy. If you want to improve your health and get more out of life, chiropractic is for you!

DOES AN ADJUSTMENT HURT?
Just the opposite! Chiropractic adjustments release tension in the joints and musculoskeletal system caused from our everyday stressors - bad posture, tight muscles, old injuries etc. Most of the time our patients comment on how wonderful they feel – more energy, less pressure, decreased pain, increased enjoyment in their physical activities! Dr. Neil is trained in a variety of chiropractic techniques to take care of everyone. If you’re nervous about an adjustment, just let him know and he will help you through the process safely and comfortably.

WHAT HAPPENS ON MY FIRST VISIT?
Prior to your visit you will be emailed a link to complete intake paperwork, including information on current complaints and medical history. Dr. Neil will review this paperwork prior to your first visit.
When you come to the office, you will meet with Dr. Neil, who will discuss what you have been experiencing and ask any follow up questions, as needed. He will then perform a complete examination in order to rule out any red flags and determine what is causing your symptoms.
The examination consists of the following:
-
Vitals: height, weight, blood pressure.
-
Neurological Exam: depending on your condition, Dr. Neil will test sensation, strength and reflexes.
-
Range of Motion:
-
Orthopedic Testing: specific manual tests to ascertain the cause of your pain or other complaints and to rule out any red flags.
-
Consult: Dr. Neil will sit with you and discuss the findings of the exam, answer any questions that you may have, and set up a treatment plan for resolution of your condition.

WILL I GET AN ADJUSTMENT ON MY FIRST VISIT?
Yes, unless there are any time-constraints, or adjustment is contraindicated, Dr. Neil will usually have time to perform adjustments on your first day. At your follow-up appointments, Dr. Neil may also perform additional therapies, such as massage, manual stretching, or instructing you on various home exercises to perform between visits.

WHEN WILL I FEEL BETTER?
That depends. Many people begin to feel better after their first visit, others with a more severe condition will likely take longer. In any event, in order to achieve lasting results, continued care for a period of time is often required. At your first visit Dr. Neil will speak with you about the findings of his examination, provide a working diagnosis, and talk about a treatment plan to correct it.

ONCE YOU START GOING, DO YOU NEED TO GO FOREVER?
Not necessarily. Our goal is to provide lasting relief of your musculoskeletal complaints, which often entails an initial course of treatment involving more frequent visits. However, during that time-frame you will be provided with the tools you need to take care of your own body - stretches, strengthening exercise, posture correction, ergonomic advice - so that you can keep feeling your best without the need for weekly care.
However, think about anything in your life that you want to work properly…your car, your house, your teeth. You could easily stop taking care of them, too, but you’ll probably experience a gradual decline in how they work. Many of our practice members include chiropractic care in their lifestyle in order to be as healthy as possible and keep them doing the things that they love, from sports, hiking, spending time with their grandkids, etc.
